History of the Basket Factory

Back as early as 1886, the factory owned by Sylvester Evans and Henry McClean turned out some 2000 baskets daily. By 1893, James Hulihan and Thomas Conley owned the Royalton Basket Company which supplied local fruit farmers with different size baskets ranging from berry baskets to fruit crates. The logs were floated down the canal and held in the log pond until they were needed. The lower level of the building was used to cut the logs into strips while the assembling of the baskets took place on the top floor. Deliveries of the finished baskets were made by horse and wagon to local farmers. Owners of the business at its closing in 1934 were James and Timothy O’Shaughnessey. RHBPA Annual Holiday Dinner at Mr. Bond’s Diner

Members of the RHBPA enjoyed a great annual Holiday Dinner at Mr. Bond’s Diner, 12 Main Street in Middleport, a new restaurant that recently opened up in the Village. A brief business meeting was conducted and a short program was also presented. The cost was $10 for members and $20 for guests. Attendees enjoyed a delicious meal, fellowship and the opportunity to network with our local membership!

December 2015 Meeting Notes

Wednesday, December 9, 2015 Attendees: Julie Maedl, Ann Fisher-Bale, Janet Lyndaker, Vonda Westcott The meeting was called to order at 8:17 AM by Julie Maedl Treasurer’s Report $4,428. Julie contacted Mahar’s regarding the bill for the port-a-potty we rented for the Wine Event. Mrs. Mahar passed away and she did all the billing so they are trying to go through the paperwork. They will send us a bill. Old Business Tree Lighting: Approximately 90 people attended the tree lighting outside in Village Commons and about 75-80 went in the Methodist Church for hot cocoa and cookies afterward.
