Comment Period for Hazard Mitigation Plan

The draft for Niagara County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan is available online for public review at http://www.niagaracounty.com/fire/Home.aspx.

Comments will be accepted until November 25. The comment form is available for downloading from this link, as well. Niagara County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan Update is prepared for the public review period.

Prior to this review period, there was a session held at the Public Safety Training Facility, 5574 Niagara St. Ext. in Lockport. Witt O’Brien’s representatives reviewed the layout of the plan and highlighted the major points and/or findings.

The public is invited to comment on the draft plan.

So I just have a question that I hope someone can answer.. does anyone know of someone going around and fixing stray cats? I went to let my cat and noticed her belly was recently shaved.. now let me explain that my cat was fixed years ago and is and indoor/outdoor cat. She also has a mark on her ear stating she has been fixed. I don't appreciate someone shaving my cat. If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated... thank you

The Main Street Lift Bridge is now officialy closed for painting.

We just heard from the Canal authorities that the lift bridge will be down on Sunday, February 1, for foot traffic for the Mr. Ed's run. It will NOT be open to vehicle traffic.

The Main Street lift bridge will be closed for painting, starting Monday, January 26, 2015. It is anticipated that the bridge will be closed 2 - 3 weeks, possibly 4.

The bridge will be up for the painting, so participants in the Mr. Ed's run will have to cross the bridge while it is up if they are coming from the Fire Hall. If heights are an issue for anyone, please make other plans to get to the start/finish line for the walk/run.

The Village Hall will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2015, to observe Martin Luther King, Jr., Day. The holiday will not interrupt the regular refuse & recycle pickup schedule.

An important winter reminder:

NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law Sec. 1219 and NYS Highway Law Section 214 prohibit the placing or leaving of snow, ice, or any other substance upon any highway or street (which includes pavement, shoulders, and ditches). In the past few years, the practice of plowing or depositing snow from private driveways or private property onto the highway and Village streets has increased significantly, especially after roadways have been cleared and snow has been plowed by the Public Works Department.

Serious accidents can occur as a direct result of plowing snow onto a public highway or street. Also, Your neighbors do not want the snow pushed onto their property. This activity can also cause the snow to pile up on sidewalks, creating problems for pedestrians.

Violations of these laws may result in a fine of $1,000 per day per occurrence for each day the occurrence remains uncorrected. The Middleport Police Department will be notified of any occurrences of violations. They will issue summonses to violators.

The Village Hall will be closed 12/24, 12/25, and 12/26 and January 1 to observe the holidays.

The refuse and recycle schedules will not be interrupted by the holidays. The Board of Trustees would like to remind Village residents that the large green and gray carts distributed by the Village are to be used for recycling, only. Modern Disposal will not empty any that have refuse placed in them.
